Fremont City Council is set to vote on Ordinance 8.90, which would criminalize homelessness and punish anyone who helps unhoused people. This law would:
❌ Ban camping on ALL public property—even if no shelter beds are available
❌ Allow the city to seize and destroy personal belongings
❌ Fine or jail people for providing aid like food, blankets, or shelter
Even the City’s own staff report admits this will not reduce homelessness—so why push this harmful and inhumane policy? Instead of criminalization, Fremont should focus on housing-first solutions that have already helped reduce homelessness in the city by 21% in two years.
